About the Author

Jean Osanz in caving gear

Jean Osanz was born and educated in France. His single mother was the grand-daughter of Spanish refugees. He didn’t climb Mt Everest like Sir Edmund Hillary, but he was the first to reach the bottom of one of the deepest caves in the world at the age of 19. That’s physical. Then he became an engineer. That’s mental. He didn’t go to South Pole like Sir Edmund, but he still went to Antarctica in 1979, where he met Pascale. That was very emotional. They got married, had two sons and have lived in Australia ever since.

It is impossible to live with Pascale without getting some spiritual awareness. It’s called osmosis. Besides, Osanz travelled for his work to 45 countries. He trained some 300 scientific instruments field service engineers. He ended up having spiritual experiences all around the world, especially in India, Tibet and Peru. This made him a bit spiritual, not unlike Sir Edmund in Nepal.

Osanz is now retired and lives in Rylstone, Australia. That gave him plenty of time to write his memoirs.

Contact the Author

Hello, I am Jean Osanz.

I can't believe I finally wrote my memoirs. My readers love the book! One said she couldn't put it down and my friend Chris (who gave me the nickname Ethnic) wrote this:

"I have just finished reading 'Ethnic'. It's a wonderful book. I often read books in small bursts of a few pages, but this one I didn't want to put down. Some of it was quite emotional, of course, and there were a few moments where I confess to having tears in my eyes. I'm privileged that my life connected with yours along our journeys. You have inspired me to write."
